Do not lie on your packages. Yes they will be fining people. I worked for usps and I’m still in the employee groups.

It doesn’t make sense. They used to say the heavier the package is, the more it costs in gas. So, dimensions and weight made sense. Now, it’s just a money grab.

I can’t figure out this postal stuff because I’m generally within just a few ounces of my estimation and those estimations have cost me $1.50 to 2 dollars extra in shipping.

Just my theory - we've been conditioned to think in terms of selling lighter weight items so the bulk of the mail is probably lighter. So they are generating a lot more income by charging more on those lighter weights.

They have the automation now to check the weights and dimensions at the processing centers instead of the post office clerks randomly checking them.

For packages under 2.1 lbs I started inserting a paperback or hardcover book in the box with a note that says “Seasonal Book Clearance- enjoy this complimentary book with our thanks for your business.” Saves me $2-3 and I’m getting rid of books I’ve already read and planning to donate.
