You can rent a proper sander from home depot and get it done in a couple of hours

I would seal it with another sealer, even though the stain already has one in it. Sealing it well is the key to get it to stay longer. Also, if you start to see any sort of wear on it, put another coat of sealer on it before it gets worse. People don’t know you can seal overtop seal that’s already there

As someone who's done this for years I think it looks great! I applaud your willingness to get your hands dirty but remember having the right tool for the job is everything, you can rent a big sander pretty cheap and save yourself a lot of heartburn if you ever do it again!

We did this. So much work. It looked great, but by the 2nd summer the stain was really peeling. We just ripped it out and got composite. We’re too old to go through all that again.🤣

Having stained my deck multiple times I learned the hard way that the darker and thicker the stain the longer it lasts.

Looks really good. We used Pittsburgh water based semi transparent rustic cedar from Menard’s and absolutely love the finish. Only took 6 samples to pick the one.

“Last’s for years” 😂 hate to break it to you but if you want to make the boards last you need to do that every other year depending on your climate. Hence why everyone has been switching to composite for the last 10 years

hi I work in a paint shop, oil finishes do need to be recoated about once a year! good news is it's just a rinse and recoat, no sanding
