@tilscience: The B.T. Woman is the only case of its kind as far as we know. After an accident she woke up completely blind. Her eyes were physically fine but her brain’s visual centers were damaged and was diagnosed with cortical blindness. She lived that way for 15 years. Then while she was in therapy for a completely unrelated diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder, which is where you have multiple identities, she discovered that one of her 10 identities could see. Eventually, doctors found that 8 of her 10 identities could see perfectly fine while only 2 stayed blind. And the switch between “blind” and “sighted” could happen in seconds. Doctors ran visual evoked potential tests electrodes, which read the brain’s electrical response to a flickering pattern in real time. You can’t consciously fake this or “trick” the machine like with a lie detector test. In her sighted identities there was a clean, healthy signal. In her blind ones, nothing just a flatline. Same brain, minutes apart. This is a single case report, and DID is genuinely debated in psychiatry, so take this as one data point, but it suggests something intriguing…that our brains may be able to filter in and out what reaches our conscious awareness far more than we thought. This makes me wonder what our brain decides to filter out of our daily experiences for us, imagine all the things/colours/who knows what that could be around us that we don't get to see because our brain has decided it's not important to our experience of reality

There’s a person with dissociative identity disorder that i follow and some of their identities can’t walk to the point where they need a wheelchair, others can walk easily. Similarly some identities remain at the cognitive level of children.

DID is a document phenomenon that is visible in brain imaging and has been document numerous times in various studies. There are no reliable studies that assert DID doesn’t exist. Saying it’s contested is like saying the earth being round is contested.

This sounds like the guy from the Split movie. He also has multiple identities and some identities could even change his physiology. The beast is the one that transforms him into a superhuman threat.

my father has DID, now he has never (to my knowledge) had an IQ test but I would say he is probably in the lower end or normal, not dumb in any shape or form, but not a genius. now one of his alters on the other hand is s scary smart, he is also self destructive, violent and downright mean. he refused to work with the psyc people so it is very limited knowledge they have of him, but it is clear that he is vastly different and while it is fascinating it is also a bit scary (especially for my dad)

The brain is such a frustrating organ. It can just decide "this is how things are gonna be, deal with it" no matter what you want it to do, even though it is the part of you that wants!
