The problem is something like DARE is so judgemental and also contains borderline misinformation about drugs and drug use. The sort of people who would be exposed to drug use, and are therefore more likely to use, aren't going to be receptive to something which they can clearly see is being, at best, hyperbolic with them.

All DARE did was tell kids what drugs were, what they did, and where to find them. Then they tried to make you scared by saying stuff like "smoking weed would make your heart explode" or other BS

No one ever offered me free drugs, heck I gotta pay an arm and a leg for my legal drugs (medication)! DARE had me believing people were just giving out free drugs

dare just taught us what kind of drugs were out there and what they did. and they would drill it into our heads week after week. all it did was make us curious.

my DARE experience was putting on the "beer goggles" in high school and riding a tricycle around the class, and i remember thinking i can't wait to do this in real life. that active addiction lasted 20 years 😭

My DARE program would literally tell us hey kids drugs are bad so don’t inhale paint glue or canned air also don’t take medications out of medicine cabinets that aren’t yours I’m just saying there are other ways to raise awareness without giving kids ideas

maybe I'm biased as an American but in what world do most people not drink? maybe the majority are not heavy drinkers, but I've literally only met one person in my entire life that claimed they've never drank.
