It was a man called Charlie Bothuell and his wife Monique. They were reporting their son Charlie had vanished!? This was super worrying - this was a 12 year old boy, who’d just disappeared off the face of the earth. His dad and his step mum Monique were frantically looking round the neighbourhood putting up missing child posters. The FBI even got on the case - it was THAT urgent And this case got such a lot of media attention that the Dad Charlie Bothuell ended up being interviewed on the news by Nancy grace. And this clip went viral online - she confronted this Dad - and was like your son has been found alive in your basement! It had been 11 days that this little boy was missing - and police discovered him in the family home, hidden behind a 55-gallon drum, surrounded by boxes. VERY similar to the Shannon Matthews case I covered on my podcast the Bourne investigation.. Investigators had initially done a lie detector test on the Dad, which came back inconclusive.. so they took a closer look in the family home. This boy was found alive but very thin and had marks all over his body The victim ended up telling police officers how his parents had held him captive. In January 2016, the Dad took a plea deal in order to get certain charges taken off the table.. He was given just 18 months of probation and made to do anger management classes. He also lost custody of his son and tried to sue Nancy grace but failed.
