He’s a police detective whose entire storyline revolves around uncovering the truth behind the deadly Squid Game and, especially, finding his missing older brother. He appears across all three seasons. 🕵️ Who is Jun-ho? Jun-ho is a South Korean police officer/detective. Unlike most of the characters, he doesn’t enter the Squid Game because he wants money. He gets involved because his older half-brother, Hwang In-ho, has disappeared. While investigating his brother’s disappearance, Jun-ho finds evidence connecting In-ho to the mysterious Squid Game. Instead of dismissing Gi-hun’s story like many of his colleagues do, Jun-ho takes it seriously and decides to investigate himself. 🎭 His biggest move in Season 1 Jun-ho secretly infiltrates the island where the games are being held. He: * steals the identity of a Squid Game guard * disguises himself as a masked worker * secretly photographs and records evidence * investigates the organization from inside * discovers records of previous games * discovers something shocking about his brother And that discovery changes EVERYTHING. ⚠️ MASSIVE SPOILER: his brother Jun-ho eventually discovers that his brother In-ho actually won the Squid Game in 2015. Even worse… In-ho is the Front Man. So the mysterious man controlling the entire operation is Jun-ho’s own brother. That’s probably the most important relationship in Jun-ho’s story. Jun-ho is basically trying to destroy the organization while the person running it is someone he loves and desperately wants to understand. 🔫 The cliff scene Jun-ho eventually confronts the Front Man. The Front Man removes his mask. Jun-ho realizes: “It’s you.” In-ho tries to convince Jun-ho to give up the evidence and leave. Jun-ho refuses. Jun-ho shoots him, and In-ho shoots Jun-ho in the shoulder, causing him to fall from a cliff into the ocean. Everyone assumes Jun-ho is dead. He isn’t. He survives because he is rescued by a fisherman. ⸻ Season 2 Jun-ho This is where Jun-ho becomes even more interesting. He knows the truth, but almost nobody believes him. The problem is that he doesn’t have enough evidence to prove that the Squid Game exists. Netflix describes him as being essentially isolated in his investigation because his superiors don’t accept what he claims. Instead of giving up, Jun-ho becomes obsessed with finding the island again. He eventually reconnects with Seong Gi-hun, who is also trying to destroy the Squid Game. So you get this really interesting parallel: Gi-hun → destroys the games from the inside. Jun-ho → tries to destroy them from the outside. And both are personally connected to the Front Man. ⸻ Season 3 Jun-ho continues his mission in the final season. Netflix describes his goal as essentially the same as Gi-hun’s: destroy Squid Game permanently. But Jun-ho’s motivation is also deeply personal because of his relationship with In-ho. His storyline becomes less about simply finding his brother and more about answering: Can he save his brother, stop him, or will he ultimately have to accept that In-ho has become his enemy? ⸻ 🧠 His personality Jun-ho is very different from most people in Squid Game. He’s: * calm * observant * brave * persistent * protective * morally driven * intelligent * emotionally controlled, at least on the surface He’s also not fearless. He gets scared, makes mistakes, and gets put into extremely dangerous situations. What makes him impressive is that he keeps going despite knowing exactly how dangerous the organization is.
