Then God spoke. “Let there be light.” From that first command came the heavens, the earth, the seas, the stars, plants, animals, and finally humanity created in God’s image. Genesis 1 reveals the beginning of the story: God creating the heavens and the earth and bringing order, beauty, and life into existence. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:3 “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” Genesis 1:16 “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.” Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:31 “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” The Bible begins with creation and everything begins with God’s Word. Light overcame darkness, the earth became filled with life, and humanity was created in God’s image. This is where the story begins.
