I love hearing Black men pushing emotional intelligence to other men... they need it so much.

I teach my son “feel your emotions, control your reactions”! I also don’t allow ppl to tell him when he’s hurting to “move on” that’s teaching him to be avoidant!

The other day I saw my 10 yr old son struggling to keep himself from crying. As soon as I told him it was okay to cry he let everything out. It was very healing for him.

This is why we were designed to have a mother and a father. Your mother will help you process your emotions but your dad will teach you how to push through without emotion. This is balance so many think is not necessary to raise a child.

My youngest had his first breakup and he came in my room and laid next to me cried and we didn’t say a word I let him feel his emotion and when he got it out he got up and went about his day. He just needed to get through that moment of hurt

Society teaches boys, how to be good to others. However, how would you know how to be good to others? If you don’t know how to be good yourself first!

The idea is that children should learn to tolerate discomfort, work hard, solve problems, and persevere rather than being protected from every difficulty. Hardship is treated as preparation for adult life and as a way of developing resilience and self-discipline, genuine parental love sometimes requires allowing a child to face difficulty, independence, responsibility, and the consequences of their decisions not continually rescuing or pampering them, on this basis I would argue your point is too vague and can be misconstrued.

I always hugged my boy when he cried. I never told him to "man up" or "be a man". He's grown now and is emotionally intelligent and kind. I've always told him that his feelings matter as much as mine and it's a part of being a human being.

So well said. As men growing up we learn essentially we’re allowed two emotions: angry or ok. Thank you for this.

one of the greatest lies of parenthood is the "stop holding your child, you're spoiling them". THATS SCIENTIFIACLLY HOW CHILDREN FUCKING DEVELOP!!! telling parents to NOT hold their child when their upset is why so many ppl end up fucked up. its neglect, children have dont develop the part of the brain responsible for self-soothing until later. so yes they call out "mommy" its their support system. when ppl dont have support and are neglected, it severely impacts their development

My son wanted to go into ROTC in school to toughen up his emotions so he wouldn’t have the urge to cry. I stopped that right on the spot. I explained to him the whole boys don’t cry bs is just that, bs. I explained emotional intelligence is a better tool than learning to take command to numb it. He understands we all have both female and male energies and need to learn when to tap into each…after that heart to heart he picked up his phone and told them he would not be joining them in ROTC, he needed to stay focused on his current goals. 🙏
