@97offold37: Our gravel driveway hill has always been a problem and even more so with lots of rain. Before the guardrail gutters we would get a big ditch down the middle and had to drag it multiple times a year. Now we don’t drag this portion at all, EVER! #drivewaydrama #rural #creatorsearchinsights #graveldriveway
Sweet heart. All you needed was a bar ditch along that hill. Heavy rain will still wash it out. I promise. Just pay or do yourself a bar ditch on the high side

Breaking news, Indiana State police are investigating guard rails being taken in numerous locations along highway 41 . Anyone with information are encouraged to contact the police department right away

I am a landscape designer and this is a very reasonable application of techniques we practice to slow and redirect water sheeting off hillsides. You have essentially built a channel drain to catch sheet flow at intervals and direct it off the road to reduce erosion. Very clever using the guard rail. You’ve encouraged me to think more creatively in my own practice as to what could be used as a channel drain!

Put a ‘shovel station’ at each ditch so you can pop out of the car at any point to clear it

This was oddly perfect. I have a heavy sloped gravel driveway and around 80 guardrails stacked up I’ve been trying to think of more uses for.

there's no crown in your driveway nor are there ditches. the drive where its washing is inverted. looks to me, that the guard rail is just a catch all. the washing wont atop until its fixed correctly regardless of the guard rail catch pans

Don’t get why people are against this? Crowning or running a ditch one side also have downside with grounding out or narrowing the track/sliding in during bad weather. Diagonal traps like this are common in many countries and using guard rails means they’ll probably outlast the owner.

If you have any rail left over, maybe cut them to shovel head size attach a handle and leave one at each trough. More convenient and they already fit perfectly to clean out your drains. Great drainage system to preserve your driveway.
