Found a cave full of angry bats! Did you know that bats are a common vector (animal that carries a disease or virus) for rabies… life saving fact below. IMPORTANT TO KNOW: if you ever find a bat inside your house after sleeping all night or taking a nap, you and anyone else in the house NEED to contact the health department and highly consider getting a rabies shot. WHY?: because bats can bite you (or scratch if the bat has saliva on the claw) while you’re asleep and you may not feel it (if you find one in the house during the day and have a non verbal baby or child they may need it as well since they cannot communicate if they’ve been bit). Rabies is pretty much 100% fatal once you start to have symptoms. Rabies symptoms will take a few days to show up. If you are not vaccinated before symptoms arise, your chances of survival are almost zero. Getting a rabies shot after exposure or potential exposure will give you peace of mind and pretty much guarantee your survival. This is not to scare you, but simply to let you know before it’s too late. Some people don’t know this information. Rabies is contracted from a bite or scratch that introduces the rabies infected saliva to your body. If you are not bit or scratched you are generally completely fine. Bats are a great asset to the reduction of mosquitos and very cool amazing animals to see up close and in person! Hope you don’t ever need this information but if you do, I hope it helps! 🦇😳💉 • • • #bats #batcave #cave #rabies #animals
