Can you talk about how behavioral assessments like Predictive Index or DISC get factored into promotion considerations? My work assessments never seem to track with “natural born leader” tendencies, yet I feel like in my home life I’m very much so more dominant and confident. So it feels like I’m not even going to be considered for a promotion even though I have credentials and experience.

I sat down with my leaders at my past job. All they would tell me is I’m wonderful there’s nothing to improve. They got rid of the senior position of the position I was in. So that’s why they say they couldn’t promote me. But anytime I wanted to go to another department I was told that I was too valuable in this department that’s why I couldn’t transfer to another department for growth. Needless to say I didn’t stay and now I’m at a job that I absolutely love and see the gross

This is great advice. I’ve had these discussions before. I think some people may hesitate to have this talk because they may not feel ready to hear about the gaps that they do have. But it’s ok! All of us have skill or performance gaps. New skills are learned, not automatic. Don’t waste too much time worrying about it. Just have the talk.
