![🚨 Noni Madueke on his conversation with Ezri Konsa at full-time after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest: “Honestly, that was a brutal game tonight. You come to Nottingham Forest knowing it’s going to be tough, physical and cagey, but I don’t think anybody warned us that we were coming to a WWE Royal Rumble. [laughs] After the game, I saw Ezri Konsa walking towards me, and I asked him, ‘Bro, what on earth was that today with Liam Delap? Why did you look like you had just completed 12 rounds with Anthony Joshua?’ He looked at me, lifted his hands and said, ‘Noni, look at my fingers, man. LOOK AT MY FINGERS!’ I thought he was joking at first, but the guy was genuinely looking at his hands like he had just survived a car accident. [laughs] He said, ‘That boy Delap is a monster! I went out there to defend, not to participate in a UFC heavyweight championship. Every time I thought I had him under control, he turned around, held the ball up, pushed me, ran behind me or started another fight. I need my family to appreciate me because I have suffered for this clean sheet.’ Honestly, I couldn’t stop laughing. I told him, ‘Ezri, you’re a professional footballer. What did you expect? Flowers and chocolates?’ He said, ‘Noni, you don’t understand. You were playing further forward, enjoying yourself, scoring goals and celebrating. Meanwhile, I’m at the back fighting for my life. I saw my career flash before my eyes twice!’ And the funniest thing is that Delap wasn’t even giving him time to recover. You’d think after one physical battle, the defender would get a few seconds to breathe, but no. Another ball comes in, another run, another shoulder-to-shoulder challenge. At some point, I think Ezri started asking the referee if he could substitute his fingers. [laughs] But that’s what Nottingham Forest do to you. You come here expecting a football match, and suddenly you’re involved in a survival challenge. Every ball is a fight, every second ball is another fight, and even when you think you’ve won the battle, somebody comes along and starts a new one. We have to give Forest credit because they made life extremely difficult for us. They didn’t allow us to play comfortably, and Delap gave their defenders a serious problem. The boy is strong, aggressive and always looking to compete. I was happy I wasn’t the one marking him because, after seeing Ezri’s hands, I would have started looking for a tactical reason to play on the opposite wing. [laughs] Thankfully, we got the goal, we got the win and we are going home with three points. Sometimes, you have to thank God, defend properly and get out of the stadium before the opposition’s striker asks for another 90 minutes. And yes, I’m happy I scored, but after speaking to Ezri, I think we should probably send him a thank-you card. Maybe some ice, a box of chocolates and a message saying, ‘Dear Ezri, thank you for your service. Your fingers will be remembered.’ [laughs] Hopefully, we perform better in our next game because we cannot keep making every match this stressful. I don’t think my heart can take it, and I’m certainly not volunteering to play centre-back after what I witnessed tonight. As for Ezri Konsa, I just hope his fingers recover before our next match. We need him defending strikers, not booking an appointment with a hand surgeon. And somebody please tell Delap that football is a contact sport, not a personal mission to destroy every defender in the Premier League!”#footballnews #footballnews #creatorsearchinsight](/video/cover/7698101023348460816.webp)
