@storytimeanimal: A Texas man says he stepped outside at dawn after realizing his recently rescued raccoon had slipped out of her room during the night, only to find her in the yard beside one of his kangaroos with her newborn in tow. According to him, the raccoon had just given birth days earlier and seemed completely overwhelmed, pacing back and forth before repeatedly trying to place the baby near the kangaroo’s pouch as if she had decided somebody else might be better suited for the job. He said the whole thing looked so unbelievable he grabbed his phone and started recording before gently stepping in. The baby was safely returned, and both animals were checked over and were just fine, but the strange moment has people online joking that even in the animal world, some moms seem to need a little backup. The owner said the kangaroo mostly stood there looking confused, then down at the baby, like she’d just been handed a responsibility she never asked for.
