@purascans: The floss that slides easily between your teeth is often coated in PTFE — the same compound as Teflon. PTFE is a PFAS, one of the "forever chemicals" that build up in the body and don't break down. In 2019, scientists at Silent Spring Institute found that people who used a PTFE-coated floss had higher blood levels of a PFAS called PFHxS — the first study to show flossing with a coated product could raise the levels in your body. After that study, Oral-B reformulated its Glide floss and says none of its floss now contains PFAS. But plenty of other PTFE-coated "glide" flosses are still on shelves. The fix costs about the same: silk, nylon, or uncoated floss does the exact same job. Keep flossing — just skip the coating. We built Pura to catch what the label doesn't spell out.
