This is why "leave him or leave us out of it" is dangerous and doing heavy lifting for abusers

Abusers thrive in the shame and quietness. Thats why men hate gossip

I feel so uncomfortable when people have a rigid "I don't share anything about my partner with anyone" mentality. Like after my abusive relationship I encouraged my next partner multiple times over 8 years to not keep everything to himself, that I thought it was okay if he wanted to talk to a friend or two, and would hope if there was something more hurtful he figured out he would then talk to me, a therapist, etc. It's weird when people make it so moral to share nothing at all !

Same. I learned what emotional and financial abuse is. I knew what the physical abuse was for sure. It gave a label to what I am experiencing. I have taken back my power and I am working my way out - quietly.

Abusers/narcissists all use the same strategies. The exact same. How can that even be????

I got held down by a guy who I thought was a friend. He kept saying “say yes” & I realised he wouldn’t let me go till I did. I didn’t even realise this was the r word till years later.

Literally one of the main things abusers do is to isolate their partner. Sharing stories openly is a valuable way for someone to understand what they’re going through, even if they no longer have support around them!

After I left my ex I saw a counsellor and they told me it’s normal & common for couples to NEVER insult or be cruel to each other, even during arguments. I didn’t know that was possible. Talk about it.

To many people don't realize they have been in dv situations. They don't realize it's not just intimate partner violence.

There's a reason women who "gossiped" were shamed by society prior to social media. Our silence kept abusers safe from consequences.

Tumblr was the eye opening experience for me; to have people validate that what I was experiencing wasn’t “normal”.

gossip is how women stay safe. I just saw a video about how women used to select male partners who were the most generous, and it was through gossip they could find out about mens generosity or ostracize those who are too greedy and not sharing

little things too that you wouldn't think of . peeing all over the toilet and floor. leaving loogies in the sink of dishes and the bathtub. especially if you've brought up more than once. at least he did stop peeing in the kitchen sink once I brought it up. still, things you shouldn't have to tell a 45yr old man
