The ignorance of people in the lower 48 never ceases to amaze me when it comes to how we live here… Alaska is red by a VERY slim margin. Clearly none of you understand how little sunlight we get in the winter time. Our forest are mostly soft wood, and therefore are inefficient for heating. Not to mention how unsafe it is to leave a wood stove burning while making a day trip to Fairbanks for a grocery run. And the native population of Alaska deserve to live in their communities without freezing to death in the winter. Alaskans are highly independent, individuals and extraordinarily resourceful, if it was as easy or simple as you all think that it is, we would’ve been doing it already.

A lot of these comments are talking about how Alaska voted, wind power, solar power, and burning wood. Heres my 2 cents: Half the population of Alaska lives in Anchorage, and folks in the city rarely vote with a concern for the rural communities. Wind power is great if you have wind, many places don't. Solar is great when you have sunlight. Do a quick Google search to see how much sunlight Manley Hot Springs gets in the winter. Both of those options rely on expensive batteries that get more expensive when you factor in shipping to AK. Burning wood is a very real option, but most of Alaska's tree species are soft woods, so not very efficient. Not to mention that a wood stove won't keep your house from freezing if you need to drive from Manley to Fairbanks for groceries. I get where you all are coming from, but if were as simple as you say, people would already be doing it.
