I feel like she implied that transwomen have a more beautiful understanding of what womanhood is because they get to experience womanhood from a male privilege perspective, meaning they get to be women without the sex based oppression women face because of the body parts men want to control in order to reproduce, but this is like saying that a white person who grew up in a black neighborhood has a more beautiful understanding of black culture because they can experience it without having the fear of being discriminated against for having dark skin

There also seems to be a conflation between femininity and womanhood, they often get used interchangeably. I feel like this conversation about “the beauty of womanhood” doesn’t give space to women who aren’t feminine because the “beauty of womanhood” is often just feminine stereotypes when womanhood ≠ being feminine.

They penalize women for being socialized as little girls, but we can’t talk about how they are socialized as little boys?

This was my EXACT issue with her take! Such an odd thing to say because absolutely nobody is untouched by the patriarchy

just because we live in an inherently racist and sexist system doesn't mean we can't operate or exist outside of it. in fact, when we are unlearning all the isms we are actively pushing back against that system and existing in a way that pulls it apart. meaning we are existing and learning outside of it.

I don’t think she meant literally outside of, but with an awareness of patriarchy’s influence. It’s like a fish who is aware of the water. They can’t physically get out if the water, but they’re understanding of the water is informed by their knowledge of its existence and nature. Or like if someone is aware they’re in the matrix despite not being able to physically leave the matrix.

You absolutely can discover your womanhood outside of patriarchy, it’s called being yourself inspite of the patriarchy

so because cis women don't have the opportunity to experience womanhood outside of patriarchy now trans women having that opportunity creates a dichotomy. maybe no one was criticizing anyone. maybe there was just a description of a difference between two different experiences of womanhood.

i agree with your central point but i think what they were saying is that they aren’t defined by it the way cis women often are, SPECIFICALLY terfs bc i believe that’s the context they were talking about. also i do believe it was an opinion and not an argument with evidence.

Womenhood is a term that has always perpetuated the patriarchy as well. Womenhood has always been used as a weapon toward women why are we even using this term?
