Deep in the heart of the Whispering Woods stood an ancient oak tree. Unlike normal trees, this oak could speak, but only in quiet rustles that most people ignored.
One chilly autumn evening, a young girl named Maya sat beneath its branches. She was crying because she had lost her grandmother's silver locket. The wind swept through the leaves, and a gentle voice echoed in her mind. "Do not weep, little one. True treasures are never truly lost."
Maya looked up, startled. The tree dropped a single, glowing golden leaf. It floated through the air, acting like a tiny lantern in the dark forest. Intrigued, Maya followed the leaf as it danced over roots and rocks.
The leaf finally landed near a small patch of moss by a bubbling stream. There, tucked safely inside a hollow stone, was the silver locket. A tiny field mouse had used it to keep its nest warm. Maya smiled, carefully took the locket, and left her warm wool scarf behind to keep the little mouse warm instead.
When she returned to the oak to say thank you, the tree rustled happily. "Kindness given is kindness returned," it whispered. From that day on, Maya always listened closely to the secrets of the woods.
