During the fight, Colón complained about repeated blows to the back of his head. In the ninth round, he was knocked down twice. After the fight, he became dizzy and nauseous before collapsing in his dressing room. Doctors discovered that Colón was suffering from bleeding in his brain, forcing him to undergo emergency surgery. What followed was a devastating journey that would change his life forever. Colón spent 221 days in a coma. When he finally woke up, he had suffered severe long term effects from the brain injury and required constant care from his family. For more than a decade, his family remained by his side, supporting him through his recovery and the enormous challenges that followed. Before the injury, Colón was considered one of boxing's promising young fighters. His career was rising quickly, but one night inside the ring changed everything. Now, in August 2026, Prichard Colón has died at just 33 years old, more than 10 years after the injury that left him fighting a very different battle. His cause of death has not been publicly disclosed. His story is a heartbreaking reminder that sometimes the fight continues long after the final bell.
