they shot themselves in foot with launch characters, fischl, Bennett, xiangling, and xingqiu will always be meta no matter what so they don't really feel a need to make new decent 4 stars because of it. nicole was supposed to be the upgrade to Bennett but she only truly works in full hexenzriel

Another sign of Laziness in my opinion is the oddly shapes map, they clearly can fill those odd gaps between regions bur the choose hallways so keep the progression as they want

I feel like the 4star issue is just the result of genshin shooting themselves in the foot early on without realizing it. characters like bennet, sucrose, xiangling, fischl and xingqiu kinda cover most of the bases. they’re still super commonly used. and if they release a new 4 star that powercreeps any of them they’ll be just too powerful

(nod krai AQ spoilers) seeing Dehya next to Nefer really just makes her stand out, this is supposed to be a character born and raised in Sumeru, and she's so pale next to someone that's still pretty light skin for a character in the dessert. my friends and I were doing a "guess the character by the eyes" game and a character looking not white shouldn't cut down the list of possible characters that significantly

i was so so so so SO excited for snezhnaya before seeing that majority of the female designs have the same detached sleeves EVERYONE has nowadays. within the last 2 years, the only 2 characters we've gotten with actual full sleeves were zibai and mavuika. TWO characters in TWO years is so ridiculous and it doesnt even look that good on most of them anyway (i *personally* think sandrone, alice, linnea, and vesna specifically would look so much better with actual sleeves) it especially sucks bc i think it works well on vodyanitsa but its so oversaturated that i cant stand it at all. and now all the recent zzz designs also have them. im just so sick of it 😭 the male designs are boring too though, i mean i like mitya and aloysha but valeriy and noy are super bland and uninteresting to me

Thats true. The Snezhnaya designs aren’t that great, but they aren’t horrible either. I think some are okay, but none really interest me other than Alyosha. After all the hype for Snezhnaya, you would think they’d go a different route with the designs, but nope. If only they would release a playable Fatui agent 😔

Preach, I am alredy annoyed by the angle they took to Odette's conflict with us cause we were involved with a death of someone she was close with seemingly. As much as Odette's design was whatever to me, I was excited for us to have a complicated relationship with her. But as always genshin took the easy way out and the whole plot got resolved in one fucking convo. And this KEEPS HAPPENING. The harbingers lost all of their aura as this threatening organization, and they keep playing in our faces by having other characters tell us how scary and intimidating they are, tell don't show. I should feel that they're dangerous, similar and wuwa dose that pretty well with the fracidous. They just keep giving us the same repeated bs and it's to the point where just 2 years ago I wouldve been pissing myself in excitement for snezhnaya and I entered it with a "meh here we go again" attitude bc I knew they weren't gonna deliver and I was proven right AGAIN. Also having balls to call vodynitsa a rusałka while she shades nothing with rusałka's is a crime to my culture and ill die by this 😭

I have the feeling that the game just suffers from being a gacha game (like most gacha games) they can't risk doing new things because they want money they can't have good 4 stars because they want money they can't risk giving out a lot of rewards because they want money the few things that I like about it (lore, SOME parts of the community, and exploration) either go against the gacha system or have nothing to do with it I think the game could be one of the best games if it wasn't purely for money but sadly those kinds of games can only rarely exist within our society

For the skin color, because the Chinese community makes up the majority of the money that hoyo gets so if they don't appeal to them they're scared that the characters might not sell that well as what she said in the vid, how could they know that they won't sell well if they haven't even tried it yet

i feel like with your last point about them not going back and expanding an older characters is a great point because i feel like that was the point of the yearly events (lantern rite windblume) we did get more to characters like venti zhongli xiao yelan but now they use those events to market new characters

I know the devs specifically mentioned Nod'Krai was planned as a time to time up knots... Which fucking knots? Rerir? We knew nothing about him. Dottore? Unless we still have more to his story nothing was convincingly tied up. The moon and the Moon Goddesses? Those are the only things that needed to be expanded, especially Nibelung's war against the Heavenly Principles. Also, no one played through the Hangout Events

adding onto your small point about the character design: I think the issue with their “take the path of least resistance” philosophy is compounded by the concept. By creating their game around real world cultures they are giving players the expectation that they will thoroughly represent them, even if some aspects are strange to a modern audience. That philosophy practically begs for bold choices in character design and so when they continually fail to deliver, or do so as little as possible, it feels like a betrayal on their own concept.

I agree with everything. They had power as the flagship of gotcha and chose greed over diversity and effort. What's worse is, I feel like if they had unique women and brown and black skin tones, they wouldn't be falling off so bad. I miss my hang outs! Also why have events with storyline if we aren't going to use them to tie up loose ends? Haven't played Genshin in a while and I likely won't return. Great video. Thanks for analyzing their bs without excusing it
