𝘼𝙉𝘿𝙀𝙍𝙎𝙊𝙉 𝘽𝙐𝙏𝙏𝙀 𝙍𝙊𝘼𝘿 𝙁𝙄𝙍𝙀 𝙋𝙈 𝙐𝙋𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀 ODF Southwest Oregon District Firefighters have reached 30% containment on the Anderson Butte Road Fire following another day of strong progress. The fire remains at 78 acres, with hose now in place around 100% of the perimeter and mop-up completed 15 to 20 feet into the burned area around the entire fire. Two small slopovers happened today when fire crossed established control lines and began burning vegetation on the other side. Both were aggressively attacked by firefighters and are now 100% mopped up, with no change to the fire’s overall acreage. Steep terrain continues to challenge suppression efforts, particularly in areas of dense vegetation and dead snags characteristic of the Applegate area. Approximately one-third of the fire burned through grass, allowing crews to make quicker progress with mop-up operations. Hazardous snags have now been addressed around the entire perimeter, allowing firefighters to safely work farther into the burned area toward a goal of 100 feet of mop-up. Temperatures are expected to cool again overnight. Resources assigned to the night shift include four 20-person hand crews, one Type 6 engine and two water tenders. Firefighters will continue working farther into the burned area to extinguish remaining heat and strengthen containment lines. The investigation is ongoing for the official cause of the Anderson Butte Road Fire. ODF fire investigators are working to identify the ignition source and determine the circumstances surrounding the fire’s start. Unlike some fires this season, where the ignition source was more readily apparent, determining the cause of this fire requires further investigation. Official causes have been shared for several fires this season, including the East Evans Creek Fire following a vehicle crash into a power pole, the Fielder Mountain Fire following a semi-truck tire incident, and the equipment-related West Jones Creek Fire and Interstate 5 Mile Marker 57 Fire. The investigation is ongoing, and updates on the Anderson Butte Road Fire’s cause will be provided if and when that information becomes available. For more information on ODF’s fire investigation process, visit: https://www.oregon.gov/odf/fire/pages/investigations.aspx The next update will be provided tomorrow morning unless conditions warrant additional information sooner.
