i would also add that some cis women might feel conflicted because they don’t see trans women as women, but as men. And they can’t reconcile their cis privilege when they see the other person as their oppressor.

They used to react the same way to "straight": "I'm not straight I'm normal!" until being gay was less seen as 'abnormal'. So yes it's about what they think is normal/real vs abnormal/not real

We are told to accept the word cis as a prefix in order to make TW you feel comfortable. This is not for our benefit this is for other people. And we are asked to respect other people’s pronouns and identities yet we are not allowed to reject something enforced upon us.

Cis discourse reminds me of when I was a kid and there was a lot of opposition against using the term "straight." I assume in another decade or so, it will be normalized, and we'll have moved on to the next season of terminology discourse.

But tell me why everyone else’s feelings are valid and we should have to call them whatever they want to be called but if women ask to not be labeled something they have to suck it up and take the title given to them! I've never heard anyone say it's a slur... my understanding is women don't want to use a prefix in front of their gender. they don't need a prefix and would like to remain unnamed. what's wrong with that?

What makes me so sad is that this whole controversy could’ve become a beautiful conversation about womanhood as a whole and how much range and variety it can have and instead every video criticizing the comment becomes filled with “don’t call me a cis woman”

I don’t think women that don’t want to be called cis are inherently anti-trans. I think in a world where we’re openly engaging and respecting pronouns, it’s entirely plausible that they have a label preference. No, it’s not a pronoun, and I think Drew’s controversy isn’t the place to bring this up but I don’t think it’s fair to call them bigots.

“Woman” historically names the female social category without qualification. “Cis woman” adds a qualifier that defines some women in relation to another category. If women are required to identify themselves as “cis” while “woman” is treated as insufficient, you can argue that female identity has been linguistically displaced from the unmarked category.
