When I asked my doctor about collecting colostrum at 35 weeks, she said “I’m not here to tell you what you can and can’t do. I’m here to advise you on what I would do. And I think that’s fine” and tbh, I appreciated that pov from her a lot

I literally found out about collecting colostrum from American TikTok. Nobody does that in my country. In fact, gynecologists advise against stimulating the nipples because it can induce an early labor. Colostrum will be there when the baby is born anyway and hospitals can always provide food for the baby anyway, their stomachs are literally tiny, so there is no need to make any backups. I’m just kinda surprised how it’s all different around the world.

I’d think about switching doctors over that. If she’s wrong about that, what else is she wrong about?

I’ve heard it can cause braxton hicks or bring labour on early, but I’ve never heard anything about bacteria, it’s called liquid gold because of how good it is for baby

Our bodies are designed to feed the bad from birth on, we don’t need to stress ourselves out doing extra stuff. Stick your boob in the babies mouth in the hospital, if they have trouble latching you can pump? We don’t need to over complicate

You really don’t need to collect colostrum lol. Your colostrum will come in once your baby is born and starts sucking.

Our bodies wouldn’t be producing it for no damn reason.

Why would I collect it if you still get colostrum for like 3 days when your baby is born? 😅😅😅😅 That’s enough

CLC here. Not sure what data/science your OBGYN is referring to.

I'm supposed to be induced at 39 weeks due to a gigantic fucking baby so I will be collecting colostrum in hopes it gets me going naturally a bit.

My doctor told me no because it may lead to an emergency C-section or stall labor which can lead to an induction 🤦🏻♀️did your doctor give you a reasoning on why you can’t

Im a L&D nurse and midwife and ive never heard that in my 15yrs. I personally have some people that shouldn’t do it because they have cervical shortening or premature labor concerns and it could induce labor but never because of bacteria that makes no sense. I would change doctors because I’m super picky as a medical professional myself. I’m definitely collecting colostrum at 37 weeks.

I did it for all 4 and frozen them in little syringes (no needles) and brought them to the hospital for birth as a backup for myself.

Okay I have a random question. Did your belly button “disappear”? I seen another person on tik tok and they were talking about (and showed) her belly button “disappearing” cuz she was preg.

What’s the point of collecting colostrum? It’s completely unnecessary

There’s truly no reason to collect the colostrum. The baby will get it when it nurses for the first few times and collecting it can expose the colostrum to bacteria that could be harmful to the baby.

I collected a few ounces before baby was born and we have almost exclusively nursed. I have never used them bc we had no latching issues in hospital and my baby has not gotten sick. This week she got her first virus. Fever of 104 and everything. Her pediatrician told us she’d probably be feeling pretty bad off for about a week. I went home and gave her an ounce of colostrum that I saved and she was better the next day!

I don’t understand. Wouldn’t the risk for bacteria be the same as the risk for bacteria when pumping your breastmilk after baby is born? There’s always risk for bacteria, that’s why there’s rules for collecting and washing pump parts and how to/how long you can save it for. She’s not making sense imo
