@tojuverse: “This is Poland, not Brussels.” 🇵🇱🇪🇺 A dramatic political protest by Polish politician Grzegorz Braun has resurfaced online, showing him removing a European Union flag, wiping his shoes on it and later setting it on fire. The incident actually took place on May 6, 2025, after Braun removed the EU flag from Poland’s Industry Ministry in Katowice. He later burned it near the historic Wujek mine while delivering a strongly anti-EU message. (Notes From Poland) Braun argued that Poland should not display the symbols of an organisation he considers hostile and declared: “This is Poland, not Brussels.” (Caliber Az) The act immediately became part of a much larger debate over Poland’s relationship with the European Union. Supporters of Braun’s position see his protest as a dramatic statement about national sovereignty and resistance to greater EU influence. Critics view destroying the EU flag as provocative and disrespectful, particularly given Poland’s membership in the bloc. The controversy also had legal consequences. Polish prosecutors later sought to pursue a case relating to the removal and destruction of the flag. (Notes From Poland) Whatever your political position, the images certainly left little doubt about Braun’s view of Brussels. Does an act like this represent legitimate political protest — or does destroying the flag cross the line? 👇 ⚠️ TOJUVERSE does not endorse any political party, politician or political ideology.
