A new law, known as the Jaafari Personal Status Code, has been introduced in Iraq, raising serious concerns about women’s rights and legal protections. We urgently appeal to women’s rights organizations around the world to support Iraqi women and advocate for their rights, dignity, equality, and protection under the law. We ask the international community to listen to the voices of Iraqi women and stand with them in their pursuit of justice and equal rights. And then, the very child to whom you have dedicated your life can be taken from you. In my country, women have been given only a tiny space to live as human beings. We are expected to be mothers, wives, and caregivers before we are allowed to be individuals with our own dreams, choices, voices, and lives. And now, even motherhood itself can be taken from us. How much more must women lose before the world listens to us? Please, hear our voices. Please, help us be seen. @A::Today I speak as a woman, not as a Muslim, but as a human being and as a voice for the voiceless. We need help to change the Jaafari law, because custody is taken from the mother and given to the father, even if he is unfit to have it! Most of them beat the child just to upset the mother and make her cry! We are killed for the most trivial reasons under the guise of "wash of shame," and the maximum sentence is six months, and sometimes they are released! A girl was killed simply for going to her friend's house to borrow a book! WE ARE HUMANS TOO,WE HAVE BRAINS,WE HAVE DREAMS!! NOT ANIMALS TO BE LOCKED IN THE HOUSE!! HELP US!!.
