@coachbryanclark: You don’t always get to choose your mood. You don’t get to decide that something won’t annoy you, that you won’t feel overwhelmed, or that someone you love won’t occasionally make you want to launch yourself into Midtown traffic. But there’s a difference between having a feeling and participating in making that feeling worse. Sometimes emotional regulation isn’t talking yourself out of being irritated. It’s answering kindly even though you’re irritated. It’s saying “I need a few minutes” instead of making someone guess why you suddenly went cold. It’s recognizing that you’re in a bad mood without requiring everyone around you to live inside of it with you. You don’t have to feel differently before you can behave differently. And sometimes the most useful question you can ask yourself is: “What am I doing right now that is making this harder than it already is?” #relationshipadvice #relationships #avoidant #emotionalregulation #fixitorfeelit
