I was shaving my legs in the shower when the power went out. I knew cause the boombox on my toilet shut off. I lived in an apt complex at the time and EVERYONE was outside. It ended up being kinda fun

It affected an estimated 55 million people, making it the largest power blackout in North American history. During the NYC Subway last all power at 4:10 PM, instantly trapping over 400,000 passengers across roughly 400 trains in pitch-black tunnels

I was in the courts playing handball. All the bodegas was giving ice creams for free. It was kinda nice to see the sky w/o the light pollution.

Unlike 1977 blackout I lived through them both 2003 was a lot civilized because it was coming off the heals of 9/11 so people were on pins and needles, because they didn't know what to expect next. It wasn't the right time to start bugging out

The Mexican restaurant across from my office building gave free margaritas because the power was out and everything was melting. People helped direct traffic at cross streets and everyone walked home. We didn't know what happened but people had AM/FM transistor radios so we were able to get the news
