Literally today I saw a video of a roughly 10 year old kid walking miles over rubble to collect pales of water for his family, and then immediately scrolled to see a huge mukbang video where I’m certain they threw away most of the food afterwards.

and if you ever dare to say any of this you just get comments like "Just say that you're jealous, honey 💅✨️". I'll bet you get a comment that's almost exactly that on this post before the end of the day.

These people have wealth i can never imagine, they make hundreds, thousands, millions in the time it takes me to make a cent, a dollar, a hundred dollars. We will never be on equal ground because the generations before us and our generation hoard it all. Coming into wealth from poverty is a fake dream for most of us, the few that manage are lifted up as inspirational stories "just tug yourselves up by your bootstraps and you too can finally stop working 60 hours a week!" I watch the people around me strive for that and fail and fail and fail because this very system we live in makes sure that me and those like me never know a quiet moment of peace, the steady calm of knowing that you dont have to worry about where your next meal is coming from, the reassurance of knowing that you cant be suddenly fired or hate-crimed in the streets. I will never know peace, 99% of us will never know peace. but 90% of the 99% will never do anything to change that, the 1% keep us all distracted in our little culture wars, our silly squabbles over immigrants and trans people and whether or not we're spending money we can't afford on the newest fast fashion or fad. Anways, yeah, on the topic of your video. Influencers, to me at least, represent the fact that most of us will never have stability, they make money by spending in a way I never will, you never will, my children never will, and most people never will. I know I rambled a bit but I just have a lot of hate in my heart for the rich

Hi I know I left a comment like this before but it's because my friend is in Gaza struggling right now. He's sick, his mother has dental issues, and I got a note today saying university registration ends tomorrow and he doesn't have the money for it. I just started this account for him a day ago because his Internet was so bad being he's in Gaza. He got an 86 on his exams despite living in a war and taking care of his family and it will be in vain if he can't attend. His PayPal is: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=TSHF25NGPVH4L his Instagram is:

it's also why I have no interest in supporting celebrities anymore, or the Superbowl, or WWE, anything with rich people is just not something I care about

The only solace is that a lot of them aren’t actually wealthy, but just cosplaying at being rich for clout 🤷‍♂️

Add on that a ton of influencers are nepo babies with zero artistic skill so they're just "lifestyle creators" that sell "behind the scenes slices of life" and shill their parents' friends stuff

I think whether the wealthy intended to or not, they've made a class equivalent of middle management. They've created a middle man for the working class to direct their hate at instead of the ones actually responsible. I think the wealthy are too dumb to have done this on purpose though, it's just a convenient result.

Those influencers aren't on my feed. On the off chance one makes through, I generally block all "haul" videos.

I think it's weird that these things stopped being viewed as selling out. or that selling out stopped being a bad thing. I'm curious if we'll return to that mentality

I have also been thinking about how perceived inequality is a key factor in societal happiness or depression.

Small-time influencers give MLM vibes, too, as though they’ve been brainwashed by the lucky few into thinking that anyone can aspire to upward mobility via hawking things. As a disabled person, I see this a lot in disability content creation: people try to get a following to get products to review to supplement their nonexistent income/resources to get accessibility tools, and the things they put out begin to shift away from politics to platitudes to attract bigger deals. I think it especially bothers me among disability content creators because I know how much many of them are struggling offline to survive; it feels especially insidious to ensnare someone into this cult of aspirational influencing when they’re underemployed or unemployed due to disability.
