Alrighty do’s and don’ts- let’s talk about it👇🏼 * No calcium sand! Even though it’s marketed to hermit crabs in pet stores, it’s actually not safe for them. When wet it can act like concrete inside their shell. Only use playsand from a local hardware store, plus it’s much cheaper and you get a ton more. * You know the drill- no toxic pellets! Feed your hermit crabs complete meals using th hermit crab food vendors meals and mixes and/or whole foods from your kitchen. I have helpful diet guide on NN website and links for food in bio * Shells- no painted ones! They are toxic to hermit crabs. * Only use heat pads to heat your hermit crabs tank (+ insulation if needed, don’t need insulation for the stick on adhesive ones). Heat lamps zap humidity out of the air and can be too harsh and hot. * Norton’s Nest hammocks are mold- proof and humidity - proof, so save yourself the time and money with having to constantly replace the rope material hammocks. They aren’t made to last in a high humidity climate. * Have a completely sealed plexi glass or glass lid, no cracks or holes. Hermit crabs don’t need oxygen like we do, they get English oxygen flow whenever we feed them. Improper lids will cause heat and humidity levels to be too low, which can be detrimental to their health! * Digital hydrometers are way more accurate than analog * I always recommend getting leaf litter/ foraging mixes from the vendors because we know it’s a safe kind, already treated, no pesticides or bugs… good to go! * Substrate should be at least 6 inches deep! Important for successful molts * Never go looking or digging for your hermies, that could disturb the substrate and cause it to collapse around them and suffocate them. If molts are disturbed, they could unfortunately pass or come up in bad shape. * And lastly, of course have a proper tank set up with all the fun enrichment and conditions. A big no no on those “plastic prisons” they sell them in. I have lots of helpful links in my bio if you need:) Happy hermit crab keeping!🐚🫶🏼 #hermitcrabs #hermitcrab #animals #pets #beach
