I bought SO and it was perfect for me but I can see how it’s not for everyone. I was lucky enough to be able to use the scheme to buy what could be my forever home. As single mum it’s been like buying with a partner but able to (and slowly am) buying them out. I wouldn’t have bought with the intention of moving on in the short term, but I’m on a gorgeous small estate with lovely neighbours, very close to my kids school and one day their high school, and I am very grateful to the scheme. If I’d been renting my children and I wouldn’t have had the security we have now, although I’m sure the full rent would have been covered at least in part by benefits so this is a much more expensive option! I bought 50% and I’m trying to buy an extra 5% per year, so should own it outright and mortgage free within 20 years of buying

Leaseholds are terrible too. I’m selling mine as the service charges are nearly more than the mortgage.
