The state 🇪🇷doesn’t just watch from the sidelines, it holds a real equity stake which is 40% share, plus collects taxes on top of that, to finish it of they even leases out trucks to the companies. THATS UNHEARD OF IN Africa. 2/ Education and healthcare are free. Not subsidized, free. While people in “developed” democracies go bankrupt over hospital bills, in Eritrea you don’t choose between rent and a doctor’s visit, or rent and your kid’s schooling. All students have uniforms too, one less burden on parents. (80% of the population has access to medical services 🏥 within 10 km of their homes, childhood vaccination coverage stands at 98%)🤯 3/ Eritrea has ~850 dams. South Africa is the only other African country in that range. The rest of the continent isn’t in the same league, because water infrastructure doesn’t win headlines or loans the way new buildings do. (How much impact does the new building vs the dam have on the residents❓🤨🙋🏾‍♂️) 4/ You don’t need to move to Asmara to have a life. What you find in the capital, you find in an adi: school, clinic, water, electricity. Most African governments build for the capital and leave the rest behind. Shabiya built village and city alike. 5/ You walk the street safe. You sleep without fear. You don’t lie awake wondering if your kid made it home, or if today’s the day something happens. Not in Eritrea, including the smallest villages. Shabiya built all of that while fighting a war, under sanctions the UN imposed without a single piece of evidence and on that 35 years of isolation. Imagine what 35 years without sanctions and isolation would've looked like. Eritrea doesn't hide behind shiny buildings.
