To be fair this is one of the "stop killing games" movement's points. If devs/whoever can just without warning shut off entire games or significant aspects of games, players should be reasonably reimbursed.

I actually spent over $80 on one of those Civilization games to play with my friends and when I had difficulties playing online even though I had already exceeded the two hour limit despite not actually being able to play a single game I argued that while I have technically been on past the two-hour limit I haven't been able to get on a single game it's just been me trying to connect with my friends but having no chance. $80 back was nice though
