Nate I am equally alarmed. A few days ago I dug deep into this and it’s grim. There is no way to separate real IP you rightfully own from the taint of watermarking while using an LLM. What this does is say for example I generate an original IP and ask an LLM to reduce the cognitive load of the text (ie reduce the reading grade level), the resulting text will get watermarked. Once that happens, the burden of proof is now on you to prove it was yours to begin with because any detectors will claim it’s not yours. If you write a 10,000 word document and the AI helped you grammatically on 100 words (1%), it will still likely be flagged — even though those changed words may contain nothing of substance. There is no defined boundary between editorial use-cases and true generative AI. Keep up the great work and help encourage the powers that be to work for us, not against us.

I don’t like this one bit. As a writer and a creator who also happens to have invisible disabilities like dyslexia I use AI to help me proofread through the lens of my definition. This goes too far. I might not be able to continue to use it.

Claude is work for hire and that’s why I don’t like this. Because if they try to claim ip after we paid for the work it’s theft. But what recourse will we have? But if I hire a programmer or a writer and they produce work for me, I’m not licensing that work, I own that work. They don’t get to stick their name on the work just because they physically did the work. Ugh. It feels like a Trojan horse.

Won’t this also make the models worse? Like the idea is it picking is what makes it come up with new ideas. If it is filtered, it feels to me like older AI systems

It’s actually funny that after stealing everyone else’s IP for years by training on copyright protected website content now they will take your IP (ideas, harness, system setup, prompt logic, token burn and related incurring cost paid by us) to maybe turn it in their IP… this is completely wrong and does not reflect the technology behind the creation of the content, as you rightly mentioned
