I remember in the early 00's a family friend paid the remaining balance of his mortgage ($30k) on his Amex. They immediately lowered his credit limit to $30k 😭.

It’s because you’re paying off your balance. You need to start leaving a balance. They’re not making any money off of you. They might eventually close your account.

Welcome to a recession; they closed 2 of my best cards in ‘08 for having zero balances. It’s more important than EVER to keep a small balance (even if only $10) on ALL your cards if you want to keep them

They told me I had to pay $1200 by a certain date to keep my 17,000 limit because I had a 9k balance. I paid the $1200. 6 months later they reduced me to 9600 (utilization was like 9580) and my credit score TANKED. thanks a lot Amex!

This just happened to my Chase 😳 I spend 300k plus a year, never late on my payments and never hold over a 30% balance. I was so pissed but happy to hear I’m not the only one.
