@the_sarahe: 🧲🧠MRI BRAIN PERFUSIONS (explained) Brain perfusion sequences are looking to see what parts of the brain have more blood flow than they should, less blood flow than they should, or normal blood flow. We do this by running EPI– a.k.a. echo planar imaging – sequence. EPI sequences are fast, gradient heavy, 90° RF pulse sequences. We are able to see the function of the brain by using EPI sequence. Brain perfusion orders are common when a patient has a invasive tumor that the doctors are wanting to see how much blood flow the tumor is getting from surrounding brain tissue. We are able to inject contrast at a high rate to watch the brain fill with the contrast and then watch the contrast wash out and see how much blood flow or “perfusion“ that patient’s brain is getting. ##radiology##brain##mri##medicalimaging##radiologist
I like that you make content for new techs and also semi seasoned techs. I been a tech for three years and I catch myself watching A LOT of your videos

Trisdon :
What contrast do you usually use for these exams and how many cc’s do you give at such a high rate?

at my facility, when we do brain perfusion, we always inject 1/4 of the amount before we do the Swan, and then we put contrast in after two phases of the perfusion. Is that not normal? That we put a quarter of the amount in before we even start the perfusion scan?

Thank you for the explanation! I used to love doing these with contrast at my old job. So pretty! At my current place, we do an ASL instead. Still cool!

What’s the point of perfusion when we can just do diffusion?
