@xbus2603283086: The Kaaba is a cuboid stone building standing at the centre of Masjid al-Haram, the Great Mosque, in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. In Arabic, “Kaaba” means “cube”. Muslims regard it as Bayt Allah, the House of God, and recognise it as the holiest site in Islam. It serves as the Qibla — the fixed direction towards which all Muslims turn for their five daily prayers worldwide. According to Islamic tradition, the Kaaba was originally built by the Prophet Adam and later reconstructed by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishmael) as a sanctuary dedicated to the worship of one God. Covered by a black silk curtain called the Kiswah embroidered with golden Quranic verses, the structure holds the sacred Black Stone (Al-Hajar al-Aswad) embedded in its eastern corner. Circumambulating the Kaaba seven times counterclockwise, known as Tawaf, is an essential ritual of Hajj (the major pilgrimage) and Umrah (the lesser pilgrimage). Hajj is one of the Five Pillars of Islam; every able Muslim intends to complete this pilgrimage at least once in a lifetime.
