The closed mine in San Manuel AZ has a huge high purity copper deposit, found when the current deposit was almost fully extracted. 25+ years to mine. All new equipment, including a smelter was brought in. However, the Mexico-based company who bought the mine had zero knowledge of the copper market. The first year yielded a few million less profit to the shareholders than promised. They shut it down overnight, no warning. Locked the gates, turned off the pumps, left everything to rust and rot

I don’t think the photos are from Morenci, but Morenci does have some nice equipment, well they did when i was there, D11, 994’s, 24 motor graders 👍
