antipodes do matter though. eclipses and planetary alignments do matter too. another eclipse is coming later this month. eclipses happen all the time as well but seldom do they happen over the poles especially as total eclipses over the poles. antipodes matter but they just need to be close because fault line antipodes don't line up perfectly.
