@nourishingapothecary: Your mitochondria are responsible for producing the energy your cells need to function. As we age, mitochondrial function can decline, which is one reason mitochondrial health has become such an important part of the longevity conversation. NAD+ is also important here. It’s involved in cellular energy metabolism and a range of cellular processes, and levels tend to decline with age. So what supplements can we actually use to support these pathways? 🧬NR | Nicotinamide Riboside A precursor to NAD+. NR can be converted by the body into NAD+, helping support cellular energy metabolism and mitochondrial function. (Brands natural factors & Theagehack) 🧬 NMN | Nicotinamide Mononucleotide Another precursor the body can use to synthesise NAD+. NMN is commonly discussed in longevity research because of NAD+’s role in cellular metabolism and healthy ageing. (Brands Theagehack & Melrose FutureLab) 🧬 Mito Fuel This is more of an all-in-one mitochondrial support option. It contains nutrients including ubiquinol, the reduced form of CoQ10, which plays an important role in mitochondrial energy production, alongside other mitochondrial and antioxidant support including glutathione. (Brands natural factors) 🧬 Herbs of Gold Ubiquinol Ubiquinol is the reduced form of CoQ10. Unlike NR and NMN, it works directly within the mitochondrial electron transport chain, helping your mitochondria generate ATP, the usable energy that powers your cells. CoQ10 also has antioxidant activity, helping protect cells from oxidative stress. And this is where longevity supplements need a little more nuance. It isn’t about taking everything labelled “anti-ageing”. It’s understanding which cellular pathway you’re trying to support and why. You can find these products and more at nourishingapothecary.com. Hi Jamie, I tried NR that exact brand on 2 different occasions it made me sick like a feeling of food poisoning. I’ve been taking ubiquinol for nearly 12 months now and have actually improved my AMH. I was wondering if NAD or NMN has the same ingredients as NR and would it likely have the same side effect?
