@ayanagabriellelage: my fyp has been wild today so I had to weigh in — I think it's possible to focus on multiple things at once, but I worry that the more sensationalist content is what's capturing people's attention #lindsayclancy #postpartumpsychosis #postpartumpsychosisawareness
I think they are in denial. Because if it can happen to Lindsay, it can happen to any one of them. It’s easier to accept that someone else is at fault than it is to realize you are no different from her.

I think I read somewhere that Patrick Clancy and his sister are starting a foundation for women pp, and I really hope that’s true

I blame the prosecution. They should have never tried this case. If the Justice system was actually meant to help people and wasn’t so punitive, she would already be in the psych ward. Tbh I don’t think she did it but it doesn’t matter because Patrick is not on trial and the defense has already picked their strategy. Now the case is highly sensationalized and the prosecution is continuing to traumatize the jury, the public, Lindsay and whoever else because they are using the gruesome details of the children’s deaths as fodder

I am genuinely concerned about the gross discussions that will happen if she gets an insanity plea, and a professional later deems her to be safe. It would be a good sign the system is working, but a lot of people will not have the base knowledge to understand it. I hope she gets that future, but we are so punishment focused as a society.

Completely agree! All of the theories are taking away from such an important conversation- of course we don’t want to believe such a normal mother could do this!! That’s why we need to look at how and why it happened. Because it CAN happen to normal, loving moms.

100% agree with this as someone who also had postpartum mental health issues . I’m uncomfortable with how many people are insisting her husband did it. I do think he has some significant responsibility in terms of the lack of physical and emotional support she had (and I’m disgusted by him denying her bipolar diagnosis). But to spend so much time and energy on crazy theories really detracts from the reality of postpartum mental health. It’s ironic to me that it is so neglected and instead of shedding light on it these true crime groupies are contributing to it continuing to be so and adding to the stigma against it.

Absolutely… if Patrick did it, then how can we confront the horrors of post partum?

THIS. It feels like we went from “we need better postpartum care-“ to “well no she didn’t do it! It’s a conspiracy-!” No… she did do it.. and we need to heavily discuss about how poor postpartum care is.

Yeah, we have people going based off of “it’s always the man” and “ppp is 2 in 1000.” Well it’s actually pretty common in women with bipolar! Something that should be considered and have good treatment/help for if that’s on their radar. And that’s not to say bipolar people are dangerous, but proper treatment is SO important to be stable. I’m bipolar and have been stable for 8yrs since taking the right meds. Ssris in high school made me crazy.

Yes! The like fan fiction people are writing is nasty. And as a citizen of the commonwealth I’m blaming Massachusetts why are we wasting money on this spectacle she’s in a medical facility already due to her needs she’s gonna go to a medical facility and people found not criminally responsible don’t get out easy. The prosecutor is spending money we as a state could spend preventing the next tragedy on a circus

Finally a sensible take. IMO both sides of this are acting like rabid dogs on TikTok. The reality is that this is a sad case where there are no winners

Part of the problem is the prosecution. They seem to be only trying this case on a theory they created and while obsessing over that they have created so much reasonable doubt that the crazies have latched on to it.

This case not only could shed light on PP issues, but also how we view mental health in general. A big conversation being had that is “proof” Patrick “did it” is the fact that he did not cry or seem upset when in court and he has “dead” eyes. When something traumatic happens, people forget that reactions can very differently. Some cry nonstop, others completely shut down, some have a mix of both, others do things as a way to avoid feeling the hurt from the event, etc. Expecting people to react the way you seem socially acceptable is taking us all the way back to the world of asylums and institutions, not moving us forward. Trauma affects everyone differently and not a “one reaction fits all”. Mental health with this whole trial is just people reinforcing negative stereotypes and causing more harm than good.

I agree. This whole time I've felt like all the people who are looking for another culprit and don't believe she did it are actually invalidating mental health just as much as, if not more, the people who adamantly think she premeditated it. It's obviously a hard concept to reckon with but that's the only way any change can actually happen

I completely agree with you. There is no villain in this family and people are spiraling trying to find one; it takes away from the true villain which is our healthcare system and especially how we still don’t know enough about post partum conditions. I am devastated watching so many people just miss the mark

So you’re not following the details. She did all the right things. She sight early intervention. Her husband was not supportive in her plight and the inconsistency in care were the big problems.

I absolutely agree. The conversation should be about mental health, access to care, and what needs to change. For those who believe Lindsay was failed by the medical system, I think it’s important to recognize that her providers were also operating within that same fractured system. Care like this happens every day. Not because every clinician is incompetent, but because these are the systems, resources, and standards we currently have. Instead of creating a lynch mob for individual providers, the focus should be on fixing the system and improving perinatal and postpartum mental healthcare. Period. Otherwise, we punish individuals while leaving the same gaps in place for the next patient.

I had severe PPD and came within a hairsbreadth of psychosis. It’s terrifying. If any good comes out of this, I hope people are more aware and show greater care to post partum women.

There are also conversations to be had about the absolute degradation of the healthcare system especially since Covid that we are ignoring just to be angry and blame people. So many of the issues in this case comes from issues of understaffing, young staffing with no mentors, and lack of centralization of care.
