As much as I agree that hoyo is problematic as a whole, I think it’s a black and white reasoning to base someone’s moral compass upon whether they play the game or not, you don’t have to like everything to play a game, criticism and consumption of media can go hand in hand, and most of the time, these “boycotts” don’t really work, especially when we are talking about a multi billion dollar company like hoyo, because people would just come back as soon as the issue is “not trending anymore”, what I’ve seen so far these people are just performative af, everyone loves to become a voice of marginalized groups for the sake of being seen as the “righteous one”, but as soon as their audience disappears, suddenly nobody wants to talk about oppression and other issues anymore. That being said, you can dislike some parts of the game and still play it, and no you’re not racist or misogynistic if you play genshin, but if you try to defend natlan and the designs of the female characters, then I think that’s a whole different story

I am a firm believer in that you can consume media without it meaning you personally are endorsing literally everything it stands for, people need to learn that they can like things, but still criticize the things that maybe aren't so good about the thing they like, as that's the only way it can get better in the future, if the problem is identified so it can be solved, like, people play ZZZ bc it's objectively entertaining, it doesn't mean you have to be a total bootlicker and defend literally every aspect of the game, bc quite frankly it's plagued with as many issues as points to commend it on, you can praise the good, while still acknowledging that it's not perfect, and that's ok

it's a different issue entirely when mihoyo doesn't view the child designs as problems nor they are used exclusively for the writing, they exist because a pretty big chunk of the player base will wish on them hence granting them money

a strong example to this is the persona franchise almost everyone adores the persona franchise yet almost every game in the series has some iffy and or questionable scenes but that doesn't make you a terrible person morality wise if you wanna play the game regardless of that
