Approach with more caution of cars trying to make a turn. I learned that when I was a kid. Not sure why it’s that fucking hard now.

It’s my understanding that the biker should yield in this situation. Passing on the right is always a bad idea because of blind spots….. also as a biker who is going faster than cars it would just be common sense to assume the car doesn’t see you.

the bike lane is clearly a traffic lane. The driver should be looking for cyclists. Car's fault. Little different than watching for pedestrians crossing.

As still alive cyclist, I never assume any car sees me. Especially at intersections. Who’s at fault legally, I don’t know, but I think it’s the biker because the car is ahead of him.

Discussing preventability is a more meaningful in this case over fault. Everything is a factor. Speed. Equipment. Passing slower traffic on the right. You can’t control other people, so whether they use a signal isn’t relevant to the rider making sure they stay safe. I’d be expecting this at every intersection in this scenario.

If your on a bike no matter who’s at fault you better ride cautiously around cars in traffic because they can’t always see you and you have a lot more to loose in a collision.
