It's always so weird to me when people say things like that, like you don't have to express that you're not apart of a group to appreciate the thing you're complimenting. "I'm not gay but she's hot" "I'm against therians but the masks are creative" "I'm not in the fandom bit this edit is amazing" the first parts are always unnecessary lol and makes it a backhanded compliment sometimes.
