Well, you can also predict the resistor value by analyzing the circuit and understanding its purpos whether it’s used with a transistor, in a voltage divider, as part of a voltage-sensing circuit, in series with a sensor, or simply as a current-limiting resistor. Then you can usually estimate the correct value or at least narrow it down significantly.
