@emmyjoleen: If you think Washington doesn’t have creepy places… you NEED to know about Franklin Ghost Town. 👻🌲 Hidden near Black Diamond, this abandoned coal-mining town has a history that is genuinely chilling. Franklin was established in the 1880s and once had more than 1,000 residents. But on August 24, 1894, 37 miners died after a fire in the mine, with a later investigation suggesting the fire may have been intentionally started. 😳 Today, almost nothing remains of the town—just old foundations, a coal cart, the sealed mine shaft and an overgrown cemetery hidden in the woods. And this is where things get eerie… 👀 Visitors have reported an unsettling feeling around the cemetery and abandoned mine area, and some people swear the place just feels like something is watching you. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, walking through a forgotten mining town where dozens of people lost their lives is enough to give you chills. 🕯️ 📍 Franklin Ghost Town Black Diamond, WA 98010 📍 Trailhead: 47.3011, -121.9524 🥾 How to get there: From Black Diamond, follow WA-169 toward Enumclaw, turn onto Lawson St., then continue as it becomes Franklin Howard Rd. and SE Green River Gorge Rd. The trailhead is just before the Green River Gorge Bridge. There is a private parking field on the right; Washington Trails Association currently lists $5 parking. From there, walk through the yellow gate and follow the old railroad grade into the townsite. ⚠️ No motorized access to the townsite, and the trail can become narrow and overgrown. Stay on established routes, respect the cemetery, and DO NOT enter or approach the sealed mine shaft. Would you explore Franklin Ghost Town alone after dark? 👻👇 #FranklinGhostTown #WashingtonGhostTown #HauntedWashington #WashingtonHistory #PNWHistory

Ahh yes black diamond and franklin mines. One of the neatest tidbit of Wa history. They didn’t like unionization very much

Haunted where?? Peaceful trail but far from creepy or haunted. I also prefer the waterfall trail nearby. Bring cash!
