@livenowfox: Hawaii Gov. Josh Green and other local officials gave an update Friday on preparations for Tropical Storm Lala, which is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane before nearing the Big Island this weekend. Damaging winds, heavy rain, flash flooding, and mudslides are possible across the state in the coming days. Green declared a State of Emergency on Thursday ahead of the storm, warning that Lala poses a "serious threat to our state."

Hurricane Melissa was a Category 5 hurricane and it hit Jamaica about 8 months ago. Jamaica made it through that, so honestly I’m sure they’ll be able to handle a Category 1. It might still cause some damage, but compared to what Jamaica just went through, a Category 1 is nothing like a Category 5.

honest question, in Brookings Oregon we get hurricane force winds every year. What makes these things more violent, th as that they get reported this way, but nobody says a word about our storms? Is it the rotation?
