Verity from ThatMob’s minecraft video is a 10/10 representation of an identity crisis because her entire character revolves around the struggle to understand who she is and what she is supposed to be. At first, Verity seems like a simple, strange presence in the world. However, as the story continues, it becomes clear that there is much more going on with her identity. What makes Verity interesting is that she does not seem to have a completely stable sense of herself. She is constantly caught between what she believes she is and what other characters believe she is. This makes her feel less like a normal character and more like someone desperately trying to figure out what her purpose actually is. She wants answers, but the more she learns, the more confusing her existence becomes. Her relationship with the player also makes this identity crisis stronger. Verity’s actions can make you question whether she is genuinely trying to help or whether she has another reason for being there. Even when she appears friendly, there is always something uncomfortable underneath it. You cannot completely tell whether you are seeing the real Verity or simply the version of herself that she wants others to see. The yellow environment also adds to this idea. Everything feels repetitive, unnatural, and disconnected from the normal Minecraft world. Verity fits perfectly into that setting because she herself feels like something that does not completely belong. She is surrounded by a world that seems to have rules, but she does not seem to fully understand where she fits into those rules. The best part is that Verity’s identity is not simply explained to the viewer. You have to question her actions, her words, and her motives. That uncertainty makes her identity crisis feel much more convincing. Instead of the story saying, “Verity doesn’t know who she is,” it makes the viewer experience the confusion alongside her.
