Even Central Park was a thriving black community that was specifically targeted by the government to put, you guessed it, a park there… the more you know 🙂

I think it would be good to educate about the existence of black Wall Street and the Tulsa race riots.

A lot of countries do not understand the real lived nuance of America and the ways the historical context of different ethnic groups’ history has played out. It’s also dependent on location as well. There are areas in the country that have vastly different ethnic makeup amongst a population. That doesn’t even count the ways that class background can interplay alongside and change among these same ethnic groups just in a different city or town. Racism is wrong point blank. However, the way the US white supremacy continues to divide historically asian and black american communities is intentional on a systemic level. The model minority myth is very powerful in the way it can make people believe distancing one’s ethnic background far from that of black Americans could eventually make them equal to “white” society. The reality is white people have always been the primary agitators of anti-asian violence. On an individual level of course anyone can be racist to another and it is wrong. There is a difference between systemic/large-scale levels of racism and prejudice that continue and the instances of individual-level prejudice. Both are wrong, but one is more continuously violent and oppressive. Also, America’s greatest strength is our diversity. We still have a long way to go, but because of the work of the civil rights movement and the like, the fact that we discuss ethnicity and race as much as we do is actually good. You can’t get past historical and systemic problems without first acknowledging and talking about them. Arpi Park has a recent YT video on Korean American history and identity and the racial tensions that have come up. It’s very good. Idk if there are any korean subtitles, but it’s a great video for those curious.

Ah, sadly my first thought as you described destroyed communities was the story of Lake Lanier, formerly the community of Oscarville. It's one I didn't learn about until a few years ago. Even now, I'm still learning about things like this, despite growing up knowing some of the basics. Thank you these videos!
Also may i say your voice is very calming!

감사합니다 for making these videos, to hear our history being taught/shared in the language i'm learning by someone who looks like me if very inspiring. though i know this info already, hearing it in korean is new and a good refresher for me, and reading people's comments gives me some hope that there is more global respect and consciousness for the black-american/soulaani experience and/or existence. 정말 많이 감사합니다

This also leads to the Asian "Model Minority" myth that was started to make other minorities (like Black Americans) look lazy.

perhaps letting them know the horrific events that happened to the greenwood district (aka black wall street) in 1921 would help them understand more in depth
