@meg.beacon: I think motherhood has completely changed my definition of a good day. It doesn’t have to be productive. The house doesn’t have to be tidy. I don’t need to tick everything off my list. Sometimes a good day is simply one where Riley smiles at me from across the room. Or where he falls asleep on my chest. Or where we spend ten minutes laughing at something that probably isn’t even that funny. Those tiny moments used to feel insignificant. Now they’re the moments I remember. Because motherhood has made me realise how quickly everything changes. The baby who needed me every second will eventually want to run off and explore. The tiny hand holding my finger will eventually become a much bigger hand. The contact naps I sometimes wish I could escape from will eventually be something I would give anything to have back. So I’m trying to notice them. Even on the tired days. Even on the days when I feel like I’ve achieved absolutely nothing. And when I see all those little lights, I think about how many other mums are doing the same thing. Not necessarily having a perfect day. Just collecting little moments. A cuddle here. A smile there. A feed. A nap. A giggle. Another day of figuring it all out. Maybe that’s what we’re all doing.
