Miu Natsha had a problem. Not a serious problem. Not a life-threatening problem. Just a very embarrassing one. Every time Lena Schuett appeared on television, Miu forgot how to act like a normal human being. "Oh my God, she's so beautiful." Her mother didn't even look up from folding laundry. "You say that every day." "I think I'm in love." "You also say that every day." Miu placed a hand dramatically over her heart. "No, but this time I really mean it." "You meant it yesterday too." On the television, Lena was laughing during an interview on a noon-time show. Miu sighed dreamily. "Look at her smile." Her father walked by carrying grocery bags. "You said the same thing three minutes ago." "Because she smiled again." Both of her parents exchanged a look. Their daughter was hopeless. A week later, while unloading groceries in the kitchen, her father casually said, "Oh, by the way, a new family moved into the house next door." Miu's eyes remained glued to the television. "Hm." "They seem nice." "Hm." "Very rich." "Hm." "They have a daughter around your age." "Hm." "You should make friends." "Hm." Lena suddenly appeared on screen again. Miu pointed excitedly. "MOM LOOK SHE'S SO PRETTY." Her mother rolled her eyes. "One day you're going to pass out because of that woman." Miu laughed. "As if I'll ever meet Lena Schuett." Famous last words. — Three days later, Miu was peacefully enjoying her weekend when her mother entered her room carrying a tray of freshly baked cookies. "Miu." "No." "I haven't said anything." "You have cookies." "Yes." "Which means you're going somewhere." "Yes." "And you're dragging me with you." "...yes." Miu pointed accusingly. "I knew it." Her father appeared behind her mother. "We're introducing ourselves to the new neighbors." "No." "Take the cookies." "No." "Put on decent clothes." "No." "You already said no three times." "And I'll say it thirty more times." Unfortunately for Miu, she lost the battle. Thirty minutes later she found herself standing in front of the gigantic mansion next door while holding a tray of cookies she never agreed to carry. The house looked expensive enough to have its own economy. "What if they're weird?" Miu whispered. Her father rang the doorbell. "What if they're serial killers?" Her mother smacked her arm. "Stop watching documentaries." The door opened. Miu wasn't looking because she was busy fixing her hair. Then she heard her mother gasp. Then her father gasp. Then a random gardener gasp. Miu frowned. Why was everyone gasping? Slowly, she looked up. And immediately forgot how breathing worked. Standing in front of her... Was Lena Schuett. Lena Schuett. THE Lena Schuett. The woman whose interviews she watched religiously. The woman whose photos occupied seventy percent of her phone gallery. The woman she declared her love for at least four times a day. The woman currently looking directly at her. "..." "..." "..." Lena smiled politely. "Hi." The tray slipped from Miu's hands. CRASH. Cookies everywhere. Silence. Absolute silence. Miu wanted the earth to swallow her whole. Her mother covered her face. Her father looked like he wanted to move houses immediately. Lena blinked. Miu blinked. Then Miu did something even worse. She pointed directly at Lena. And yelled— "YOU'RE ON MY TV." Silence. A bird somewhere stopped singing. Even the wind looked embarrassed. Lena stared at her. Miu stared back. Then realization hit. "Oh my God." Lena bit her lip. "Oh my God." A laugh escaped Lena. "Oh my God." And suddenly Lena was laughing so hard she had to hold onto the doorframe. Meanwhile Miu was considering changing her identity and relocating to another country. Their first meeting lasted exactly twenty-two seconds. And somehow Miu had already humiliated herself. The worst part? Lena thought she was adorable Miu didn't leave her room for two days. Not because she was sick. Not because she was busy. But because every time she remembered herself screaming— "YOU'RE ON MY TV!" ...she wanted to evaporate. Continuation ⬇️
